Cable Modems are popular for one reason: Their dial up ancestors don’t have anything else good about them aside from giving internet access. As we all know, dial up modems are slow, deadly slow. And by using them, whenever the computer is online, the phone is, unfortunately, offline.
But, cable modems are expensive and not everyone can afford them. So, the internet call monitoring modem was devised. A basic call waiting modem lets anyone online know if there’s an incoming phone call. It gives them the ability to answer or ignore it, and suspend or resume their internet usage.
As long as you have a call waiting feature from your telephone network, you can pretty much install a call waiting modem in your computer. Here are some of the unique features of a call waiting modem.
• Usually, a call waiting modem has unique ways of letting you know if you have an incoming call. For instance, it can disrupt whatever you are doing online with an instant spyware-like message or will ring if there is an incoming call.
• Just because your modem gave out this weird ringing sound doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to answer the phone. You can pick up the phone and talk to the caller, or ignore the call and keep doing whatever you’re doing online.
• If you pick up the phone to talk to the caller, you need not redial the dial up again. Usually the modem will automatically reconnect after you hang up for a few seconds.
• If you decide to stay in the phone, the internet will automatically be disconnected.
